Make Your Own Flavored Water

Raspberry Lime Water
If you don't like drinking plain water ... here are some tasty flavored water recipes. They are delicious, refreshing and very low calorie. Flavored waters are also great to have instead of unhealthy sugary drinks such as soda. Also, if you want to improve your health through a juicing or detoxification diet, flavored waters are great to include in your diet to stay well hydrated.

Minty Cucumber Lime

1/2 a cucumber, sliced
1/2 a lime, sliced
1/4 cup fresh mint leaves

Strawberry-Lemon with Basil

1/2 cup sliced strawberries
1/2 a lemon, sliced
1/4 cup fresh basil leaves

Watermelon Mint

1 cup cubed watermelon
1/4 cup fresh mint leaves

Pineapple-Orange with Ginger

1/2 cup cubed pineapple
1/2 an orange, sliced
1 tablespoon freshly-grated ginger

Raspberry Lime Water (Pictured)

1/2cup Raspberries
1 lime, sliced
few mint leaves

You’ll Need:

1-quart jars
Water
Wooden Spoon
Agave or another sweetener (optional)

Directions:

  • Choose which recipe you're making — or come up with your own combination — and gather all of the ingredients.
  • Place the fruit, herbs, and/or spices in the bottom of one of the glass jars, and mash up the fruit at the bottom with a wooden spoon to release some of the flavor-filled juices. (For the Raspberry Lime Water recipe, mash up the lime and basil then add the berries).  Fill the jar with water and give it a taste.
  • For a fizzy treat you can also fill the jar with seltzer water instead of regular water.
  • If you'd like something a bit sweeter, you can add some agave and mix until dissolved.  Enjoy as-is or refrigerate overnight for maximum flavor. Yum!

Dangers of Diet Soda

Why DIET soda is NOT as good for you as you think! I'm particularly amazed by the number of people who comfortably drink diet soda with the belief that it's safer than ordinary soda. When researching the dangers of diet soda, sadly I've learned it is just as unhealthy as ordinary soda especially because of the ingredient aspartame. Aspartame is what is used to give diet soda that sweet taste.  It is an artificial sweetener and the manufacturers of diet sodas say by substituting sugar with an artificial sweetener, then they are drastically cutting down on calories contained. Unfortunately, this attempt to make beverages healthier for us does the complete opposite. Artificial sweetener will actually confuse the body.  For example if I were to drink a diet coke, because it tastes sweet, my brain will send a message to the pancreas to prepare for digestion of sugar, now that means more insulin will be produced. However, it will not find any sugar in the ...
